Honour and celebrate excellence in Canadian public service journalism
The 2023 Michener Awards ceremony was held on June 14th, 2024, at Rideau Hall, the official residence of the Governor General of Canada, located in Ottawa, Ontario. This year’s finalists included a range of outstanding newsrooms covering vital stories from across the country.
The 2023 Michener Award winner for meritorious public service journalism is The Narwhal and The Toronto Star for their reporting on the Ontario Greenbelt Scandal. Additionally, Chantal Hébert, OC and Terry Mosher, OC were awarded the Michener-Baxter Award for Exceptional Service to Canadian Journalism.
In addition to these awards, the ceremony celebrated Ève Lévesque and Marie-Christine Noël, who received the Michener-Deacon Fellowship for Investigative Journalism, and Jean-Hugues Roy and Naël Shiab, who received the Michener-L. Richard O’Hagan Fellowship for Journalism Education.
