The Michener Awards ceremony is traditionally held at Rideau Hall, the official residence of the Governor General of Canada, located in Ottawa, Ontario. In 2020 and 2021, the COVID-19 pandemic made this impossible, and consequently the ceremony was moved online. On June 16th, 2023, we were delighted to return to an in-person celebration at Rideau Hall, featuring the finalists and winning teams from the past three years.
The 2022 winner Michener Award for meritorious public service journalism was The Globe and Mail: Hockey Canada’s Secret Funds. In addition, the ceremony celebrated Molly Thomas, the recipient of the Michener-Deacon Fellowship for Investigative Journalism, as well as Sarah Trick and Alanna King, the recipients of the Michener-L. Richard O’Hagan Fellowship for Journalism Education.
